Car drivers who use their cars for work travel are often unaware that they have to have their own insurance cover. If you are driving on a work journey, something other than just travelling to and from work, then you will need to make sure that your car insurance covers you for business travel.
Many companies expect employees to travel between sites on to customer sites for meetings and things like that. They might be visiting customers on business sites or at their houses, travelling to other branches for meetings or even going to the post office or running other errands. All of these things would be considered to be business journeys.
If you are involved in a car accident while you are driving the car for a work purpose, then it is possible that your insurance will not cover you. It can be very simple to just telephone them and ask for this sort of cover. It does not always cost any extra either, but that will depend on how many journeys you make and how long they are.
You may feel that no one will know, but it will just take one slip of the tongue or someone else telling them and you could be having to pay for expensive car repairs yourself and this could include any damage that you do to another vehicle as well as your own. It really isn’t worth the risk and stress.
